Last weekend we were promised Musical Magic by the Gemini Musical Theatre Company at a number of venues across Warrington and we were not disappointed. Under the leadership of their musical director Steve Raynor they were led through a diverse programme of songs from musicals ranging from Beauty and the Beast, South Pacific, The Sound of Music, Guys and Dolls culminating in a medley from Les Miserables which had the audience on its feet and pleading for more!
The direction and arrangements of the ensemble pieces were a delight and inspired arrangements such as Edelweiss sung by the whole company gave new life to an old favourite and the clever contrast of comedic numbers, solos and choral pieces kept the programme both interesting and lively.
Gemini’s strong and wide range of individual musical talents were also evident and a special mention must be made of Adelaide’s Lament from Guys and Dolls impeccably sung, with inspired timing by Louise Rayner, which had the audience laughing out loud one minute and almost in tears the next!
The company must be congratulated for taking on such a wide ranging, complex and challenging programme and delivering it so professionally with such enthusiasm and enjoyment. Some of the venues last weekend were a sell out so make sure you book early for their Christmas Concert on the 18th December at Culcheth High School.
Gemini welcomes new members both singing and non-singing to join them for their next venture, which is a performance of The Pirates of Penzance to be developed, rehearsed, and performed in one day! Details on the website or just turn up to a rehearsal held every Tuesday 7.30 pm at Hood Manor Community Centre WA5 1ET.
